Animal Crossing Nook Leaf Coaster
After getting sucked into Animal Crossing: New Horizons, I wanted to make some Nook leaf coasters, but there weren’t any crochet patterns out there so I made my own! These are super quick and easy to make with your leftover bits of green cotton yarn.

Supplies
- 10-12 yds of green cotton worsted yarn (I used Lily Sugar ’n Cream)
- 4mm hook (G) or whatever is appropriate for your yarn
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
Abbreviations (US)
- YO - yarn over
- ch - chain
- st - stitch/stitches
- sl st - slip stitch
- SC - single crochet
- HDC - half double crochet
- DC - double crochet (1 YO before starting the st)
- TR - treble crochet (2 YOs before starting the st)
- DTR - double treble crochet (3 YOs before starting the st)
Gauge
- 5 sts (measuring from the outer edges) and 2.5 rows = 1 inch in DC
Notes
- With the 4mm hook and Sugar ’n Cream yarn, it’s 4 inches long between the widest points, so it just fits a regular mug, but some of the bottom of the mug is over the cutout part of the leaf. If you want a larger coaster, you may want to use a heavier weight yarn and/or go up in hook size.
- You’ll work the first 3 rounds on the front (or “right”) side, and then turn your work so that the last round is worked on the back (or “wrong”) side of the coaster.
- Sequences to be repeated are in [ ], whereas multiple st done in the same st are in { } outside of a sequence.
- The beginning ch3 counts as a st.
Instructions
- Make a magic ring, then ch 3, DC 11, sl st to top of ch3 (12 st)
- Ch 3, DC in same st as ch3, [2 DC in next st] x 9, {DC, sl st} in next st, {sl st, SC} in next st, sl st to top of ch3 (24 st)
- Ch 3, DC in same st as ch3, DC, [2 DC in next st, DC] x 9, turn (leaving the rest of the st unworked) (29 st)
- On the “wrong” side, ch 1, [2 SC in next st] x 2, {SC, HDC} in next st, DC 2, {2 TR} in next st, DTR, TR, {DC, HDC} in next st, SC 2, {SC, HDC} in next st, HDC 2, {HDC, DC} in next st, DC 2, {2 DC} in next st, DC, HDC, {SC, sl st} in next st, sl st…
Make the stem: ch 4, DC in 2nd ch from hook, HDC, SC, sl st to base of ch4…
Continue the round: SC, {DC, TR} in next st, TR 2, {2 TR} in next st, DC 2, {3 DC} into the ch3 space - Fasten off, weave in all ends.
- Make a bell coaster to go with it!
